DOC-STYLE COMMENTARIES
Alison enjoys remixing footage to music that represents varying viewpoints about different potentially controversial topics from time to time. Listed below are a few of those projects.
2020
The first of Alison's remix projects was inspired by the chaos she found in the United States upon coming home from living abroad in Norway for a year and a half. Consisting of movie footage reflecting her feelings on different news stories and footage from some of those news stories, she believes this project is a fairly accurate representation of a young person's first foray into a troubled nation - and world.
When We're Together: RaYnbows at BYU
About two and half years into Alison's undergrad at Brigham Young University, Elder Holland of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints gave a speech to faculty sparking religious and moral disagreements across campus. This remix represents Alison's belief that religious integrity requires leaving room for differences; in fact, doing so will improve the lives, tolerances, and educations of both sides of the spectrum.
Own Me?
The male gaze in cinema is not something Alison was accustomed to growing up, having strict parents who only allowed her to watch films where women were properly respected. Imagine her shock after watching something diverging from that norm for the first time and realizing that female objectification has been the norm. This film represents that realization and the gratitude she feels having grown up on films that may not always pass the Bechdel test, but at least treats women as people, not consumables.
